Battelle Memorial Institute also participates in LLNS as a teaming subcontractor. Cutting-edge science is enhanced through the expertise of the University of California and its 10 campuses and LLNS' affiliation with the Texas A&M University system.

2025 Foster Award winner, Michael Anastasio

Michael Anastasio Awarded the John S. Foster Jr. Medal

Friends and colleagues honored Mike Anastasio as the tenth recipient of the John S. Foster Jr. Medal in September 2025. He served as director of both LLNL and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Anastasio played a pivotal role in the decision to cease nuclear testing as well as the development and execution of the Stockpile Stewardship Program. He has remained deeply engaged in national security, serving on advisory panels and boards within DOE, the departments of War/Defense and State, the National Academy of Sciences, and U.S. Congress.
